Coljam Design Portfolio 2008

Our design process is simple. We talk to you, and listen to what you want for your website. Then we give you our expert advice, and show you some of the ways you can use your website with maximum impact to meet your business goals. Then over the course of the next few weeks, you will send us any text you would specifically like used, and other files such as existing logos you wish us to work with. We then create an individual design based on our conversations. We do not use templates or canned sites. Every design is personal and unique! We then show you mockups and listen to your feedback at every step of the way. You do not pay a penny for design work until you are happy with the design we have created for you.

Here are some illustrations of a few of the projects we've worked on for 2008, to show you various steps of the design process and the high quality of work we produce.

Vets Medical Clinic Website

This website replaced one which primarily contained medical information about pets. Although useful, it had no warmth and didn't give the friendly feeling the practice staff wanted. We designed a site that showed off their colourful, high-impact branding and introduced the fantastic location and friendly staff. They still point to the medical information, but now also utilise a weblog to announce important seasonal information and share important news items.

Restaurant Website

The old design for the Jade Garden Chinese Restaurant was tired and had little impact, so we created a design to appeal to the senses, and give a feeling of richness and comfort. Much of the vital information such as contact and reservations numbers will now be available on the front page, which caters to those customers who want just that little bit of information quickly. A detailed menu and services descriptions are available just one step inside the site for those who are thinking of booking function rooms or making holiday plans, services which are important to the success of this business, but were not highlighted in their old design.

Music Website

This site for Swedish rock star Andreas Lundgren was one of our largest and most exciting projects of the year. It included not only the website design, but a photoshoot to create images with the specific look and feel Andreas wanted, coverart graphic design for his latest album, multimedia input to showcase his albums, dozens of custom images to make each page shine artistically, and a blog for him to communicate with his fans. He also wanted a Facebook promotional page that coordinated with the design of the website, to take advantage of the growing social networks, a perfect match for his audience.

Service Website

This redesign project gives a tired website a much needed facelift. In addition to improving SEO by getting rid of a confusing and outdated splash page, we've created unique and dynamic images to show off the creative side of this business in addition to their mechanical work. A weblog will allow them to show off their expertise in their field. What was an ordinary website has been transformed into something special by simply highlighting what this service-based company does best.

Real Estate Website

Another redesign, this project had very simple specifications from the business owner. While retaining the functionality of the property sales section, they wanted a fresher and more open layout to replace what had been a dark design which they had enjoyed for two years, and they wanted space to show off some pictures of the local area. Also by putting text on the front page in addition to navigation, we improve SEO, but also remove the feeling that users need to go through one extra step to get the information they want. This project is due to be launched in the coming months.

Multimedia Video Website

This project was a redesign for an existing website. The site needed to be freshened up and modernised after having the previous design for three years. The goal here was not only to create new images, but highlight some of the key areas the site owners felt would encourage more user participation and simplify navigation. In addition to other changes, we've also incorporated more relevant text on the front page not only as a better SEO technique, but also to cater to the different ways users like to navigate the hundreds of pages of this site. This site has also evolved into using forums and user blogs, therefore encouraging its youthful target audience to stick around and socialise, meaning a better experience for the users, and higher ad revenue for the site.

Shopping Site

This was a complex shopping site project that involved graphic design to give it a bright, friendly appearance and VB.NET programming to create MSSQL database system to handle membership, gift list viewing, and a complex set of administration features to allow the site manager to control links, affiliate programs and advertising, and also to be able to commincate with users.

Stocks Monthly Sales Site

This stocks membership project was one of our most complete programming efforts. It has a back-end system that allows the site manager to upload a set of stocks statistics on a monthly basis, control paid subscriptions, and a private members area for confirmed customers. The sophisticated administration tools mean that the site manager is in complete control of every aspect of the behind-the-scenes work for this site.
